Yo. I go by Psol Int'l. I am a producer, DJ, and initiate of Spin Plugz Record Pool. What I do is simple: listen to music I like from artists I know, buy their music, and DJ their music in places that seem fit. In this blog, I'll be answering frequently asked questions about Spin Plugz, what it is, why I started, and where it's going.
What is Spin Plugz Record Pool?
Spin Plugz Record Pool is the platform I call my collection of music that I also share on social media, Spotify, and website with special blog posts.
Why did you start a record pool?
I started a record pool to have a place where music I collect from the underground can be seen; music I resonate with from artists I've known and met. That's really the simple reason, but I am a person that loves to give as much value into what I'm doing. So, I decided to turn Spin Plugz into an all-out platform for underground artists while adding value to them as well as building my credibility as a DJ.
How exactly are you doing this?
Since July 2018 when I first got into DJ'ing until now, I've met dope artists from Dallas, Fort Worth, San Marcos, Austin, even my hometown Temple. I decided if I really want to support them, I'd buy their songs on iTunes and DJ it and possibly make a remix of their song. In addition, I've made playlists on Spotify to put their songs in based on the genre, created an Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter to promote them and keep followers updated, and created this website as a central location for everything including a special blog section.
Where do you see this going?
I see this becoming an asset for the artists, DJs, and entrepreneurs I associate with. Like I said, my only intent is to buy songs I like made by artists I meet over time and play their music in a set (because that's what real DJs do, right?). I believe the blog section will be the most beneficial and what really separates myself from the other DJs. I'm personally excited I find new Soul and R&B music I may like to remix.
What's in it for you?
Love. I don't expect anything else. I love making music, DJ'ing, and meeting like-minded creators and initiates. This is myself being creative with what I do. If anything, I'd like free passes to shows of artists I know, or even better, to be the official DJ of the show. But ultimately, my desire is to DJ songs I like, and that's exactly what I'm doing.
What do you encourage artists to do?
Release clean versions of their music! I personally don't mind explicit content, but if an artist wants their music to go further, having a clean version will get the job done because it can be played on the radio. I'd like to keep my Spotify playlists clean so I can share it with store owners I have good relations with.
What do you encourage music lover to do?
Buy music again. Streaming on Apple Music and Spotify is cool but owning a copy of your favorite artist's work feels way better. Digital, vinyl, CD, cassette, it doesn't matter. Eventually, you'll have your own record pool too.
What should everyone know about you as a DJ?
I got into DJ'ing July 2018 after the passing of my grandad. I inherited money from him and decided to get a Pioneer DJ controller after realizing all my favorite producers (9th Wonder, Madlib, KATRANADA, Alchemist, J Dilla to name a few) were also DJs, or at least knew the art. My personal favorite genres to perform are House, Dance Hall, Hip Hop, and Soul. I mainly focus on smooth transitions and being sure the music is aligned with the atmosphere. I am very, very picky. Those who know me personally know I don't just casually listen to anything and will tell you if I dislike the song, but if I really like I song, I'll add it to my personal playlist.
