The Sessions; August 2019 Issue

Saturday evening August 24th, The Sessions was held at SlimPickins Outfitters, an outdoor clothing, gear, and footwear store in downtown Stephenville, Texas. In the past, The Sessions is an event ran by Stephenville singer, songwriter, and guitarist BK every fourth Saturday of the month. BK started The Sessions so artists could have an opportunity to express themselves on stage.

For August, BK insisted that I reach out to artists I associate with to perform. This blog is about the amazing turnout of The Sessions followed by links to Instagram, Soundcloud, and Spotify profiles.

Granbury Singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Jay Persona, brought smooth Latin music infused with Hip Hop and R&B influences to the set the mood. The beats he produced is based by traditional Latin music then followed by urban essential elements. Jay Persona's lyrics and way of verbalizes them takes the audience on a romantic trip to the tropics of Playa Marona.

Dallas lyricist, songwriter, and producer Sherm STX was the second performer bringing theatrics to the forefront. His stage presence made the audiences' attentive to his lyrics over a variety of Hip Hop beats. When the speakers had technical difficulties, his optimism still remained high and continued as if nothing happened.

Temple lyricist, songwriter, and a member of the rap trio MoonLit Crew Big HILL came with a calming, yet charismatic energy to the audience with beats containing the boom bap style with new school Hip Hop influnces. Big HILL's impact came from his ability to play with and characterize words individually while rapping lyrics about daily life's routines, questions, enjoyments, sorrow, and lessons. Another member of MoonLit Crew, Nail, came to support and took initiative to be behind the microphone. Nail's style has sharp, heavy, and direct lyrics over old school Hip Hop beats. Lyrically, Nail matched Big HILL's from a fiery and expressive way feeling about life while Big HILL directs his lyrics in a relaxed and reality-based way.

Overall, the artists who came had an outstanding performance. Jay Persona, Sherm STX, Big HILL and Nail all had a liking among each other. Social media tag names were being exchanged during intermissions and conversations about music, anime, work, and school brought everyone closer together. Everyone who came enjoyed the music and the carefree atmosphere.
